Dr. April Fields is double board certified in general psychiatry as well as child & adolescent psychiatry. A native of North Carolina, Dr. Fields earned her B.A. in Computer Science from Duke University in 1993. She earned her M.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2006. She spent a year in Pittsburgh for her internship at Western Psychiatric Institute before returning to the Triangle for the remainder of her residency in psychiatry at UNC. Dr. Fields completed her fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at UNC in 2011. Dr. Fields’ practice is open to children and adults age 5 and older and is limited to outpatient treatment only. While all patients are welcome, special fields of interest include child and adolescent mental health, PTSD, perinatal and postpartum mood disorders, identity and LGBTQIA issues (including transgender care). Dr. Fields offers medication management and limited individual psychotherapy.
